10 Things you can do to Stay Calm the Night before your Wedding

May 1, 2024roise

It’s the night before your wedding…you’ve done all the hard work and planning. You can just put your feet up and enjoy it all now. Right??!! Ideally! But the reality is most brides and grooms find it hard to relax and to switch off the night before they walk down the aisle. In fact, a huge percentage will not even be able to sleep for more than a few hours.

The pre-wedding jitters will even last the morning of the wedding. Nobody wants this feeling in the few hours before the best day of their lives.

We’ve worked with many brides and grooms in the build up to their weddings and we want to share the most effective ways to lower stress levels in the run up to your big day.

    1. Candles – it may seem like a cliché but low lighting and candles create an ambience and raise oxytocin levels  (the love hormone). This helps calm your nervous system which will put you at ease.
    2. Exercise – burn off some steam and increase your endorphins. Exercise such as yoga can help calm and aid sleep. Endorphins will counter cortisol levels (which are heightened when stressed).
    3. Breathwork – try a pranayama practice to calm your nervous system and to centre you. We recommend the 4-7-8 breathing.
    4. Meditation – make yourself comfortable and put on a guided meditation. This will help focus your mind and block out the noise.
    5. Take a bath – warm water naturally sooths and relaxes our bodies.
    6. Lavender – fill your room with lavender . Try one of our pocket lavenders  that you can keep close by when you need it most.
    7. Laugh! Put on a comedy or something guaranteed to make you laugh. Laughing reduces stress levels.
    8. Dance – dancing has so many positive benefits and makes us feel super. Why not stick on the first dance song and freestyle it! You could even try our dance yoga routine. Music has powerful effects on our bodies and minds.
    9. Eat well. It’s important to emphasise the mind-body connection. Gut health is crucial, so try and stick to a nutrient rich meal before bed. This will have minimal impact on your sleep and digestive system.
    10. Myofascial release therapy – all you need is a tennis ball or spikey massage ball. Rolling your muscles is a quick and proven way to release tension.
